‘Mount Toubkal Ascent 2 days trek’ will allow you to appreciate all encompassing perspectives from Ait Mizain valley through the little towns of Imlil, then over the surroundings wild and bright high mountains on the wrapping far up to the summit. This trek will see you achieve the summit for dawn for unimaginable perspectives and an astounding feeling of accomplishment. You will likewise appreciate noon breaks in the nature and tasting an assortment of Moroccan Berber food made by our accomplished cook, naturally and securely cooked each day.

DAY 1:

Pick up from Marrakech and head to Imlil at the heart of the Atlas Mountains. After meeting the guide & muleteers, we start the walk up to the base camp via Sidi Chamharouch and passing several berber villages on the Toubkal Massif.
Overnight at the Neltner Refuge at an altitude of 3200m.
6 hours walking.

DAY 2:

Early rise to avoid the powerful midday sun. After breakfast starts the ascent of the highest peak in North Africa, Toubkal, at an altitude of 4167m.

After 3-4 hours walking, you will get to summit of the High Atlas Mountains, Toubkal. You will see spectacular views from the peak looking down to the valleys and berber villages. Relax and take pictures before heading back to the base camp. The return journey takes around 2 and half hours. Lunch will be served at the refuge by our staff, then descent to Imlil by the same way to meet the driver for the transfer back to Marrakech or stay in Imlil until the next day.

WHAT TO BRING

You need to prepare as you would for walking in any mountain region; it can be warm and sunny during the day but the weather in the mountains can quickly change from sunshine to snow and cold winds (autumn through late spring). Please do not leave any rubbish behind you; carry out what you carry in.

We are tailored to match the season and your level of fitness. You have the choice of basing yourself in Berber Guesthouses, from where you can take daily walks, or you can Atlas Mule Trek for 2+ days. On mule treks you usually have the choice of staying in Berber Guesthouse/with families or wild camping in 2-person tents. In addition to regular packing, here is a check list for:

  • Good walking boots and socks
  • Comfortable shoes/slippers for camp/guesthouse
  • Trekking pants
  • Lightweight waterproof over-trousers / rain-pants
