DAY 1:
Tangier – Chefchaouen – Fes
The driver picks you up from the port of Tangier and departure to Chefchaouen, a town founded as a secret mysterious place from which to attack the Portuguese installed on the north coast. Was totally banned from entering the village to Europeans until the arrival of the Spanish troops in 1920. Arrival in Chefchaouen and have a first contact with the city, we continue our way to Fes, Imperial City, which dates back to the eighth century. It is also one of the first holy cities of Muslim worship in Morocco and also has the pride of hosting one of the oldest universities in the world. Afternoon free to relax and have a first contact with the city that will transport you to the past.
DAY 2:
Fes sightseeing
After breakfast, we will begin our visit of “the oldest living Medina in the world” with a local official tour guide. We will tour the Medina with its “souks” (markets), stopping at the gateway of the Royal Palace, the 9th century Karouine Mosque and University. We will also visit the tomb of the city founder “Moulay Idriss II”. Lunch will be held at one of the traditional restaurants in the old Medina. After lunch we will continue our tour to visit the Nejjarine Fountain, the old Harem Garden and the Batha Museum. On the way back to the hotel, we will stop to enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
DAY 3:
Fes – Merzouga
In the morning we will go into the mountains to a region known as Imouzzer, which is blanketed by forests of cedar, juniper and cork oak. The area is well known for having abundant wildlife and we may see many types of birds, wild boar and Barbary apes on our scenic drive. Then the road will start climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains where we may see the slopes dotted by the tents and goat herds of nomadic Berbers who call this rugged region ‘home’. After late lunch in Midelt, we continue on mountain roads overlooking the wide flowing Oued Ziz. Passing Kasbahs and palm groves we pass through the adobe colored city of Er-Rachidia and arrive in the late afternoon to Merzouga, city on the outskirts of the Sahara Desert where we will spend the night.
DAY 4:
Tour around Erg Chebbi by 4×4
Camel ride and night in desert camp. In the morning, we start our tour around the dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will visit a berber house and listen to some Gnawa music; originally from Ghana, and Sudan. We will visit some deserted mines, Berber nomads and oasis of palm trees. For lunch we will head back to Merzouga. After relaxing for a time we will go for the camels that are waiting to take us on an adventure in the sand dunes. We will spend the night in an equipped camp with drums music in the middle of the Sahara, which is a great opportunity to take lovely pictures of the sunset and sunrise. When we arrive to the camp, we climb the high dunes to see the sunset and spend the night in nomad tents.
DAY 5:
Merzouga – Erfoud – Todra gorges – Dades gorgeous
After watching the sunrise we go back to Merzouga. We will have an opportunity to take a shower and have a lovely breakfast. Then we start our journey back to Dades valley. On our way, we visit the Berber villages, Todra gorges and Dades valley. We arrive to our place, where we stay in the afternoon and spend the night in a hotel.
DAY 6:
Dades valley – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Leaving Dades gorgeus in the morning, we will visit Rose Valley, Ouarzazate, Ait Benhaddou Kasbah to take a tour in this world heritage site. This famous 11th century kasbah was used as a backdrop for more than 20 films including famous ‘Gladiator’. After lunch we will start our journey back to Marrakech through Tizi-n-Tichka and reach Marrakech in the evening.
DAY 7:
Exploring Marrakech
You will have a guided tour to discover the multiple facets of Marrakech with a stroll in the labyrinth of the narrow streets of the Medina amongst its famous Souks and a visit to the most beautiful palaces and monuments of Marrakech.
DAY 8:
Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat
After breakfast, will leave Marrakech to contunue our way to Casablanca. Once in this 1st economic capital, will visit the Hassan 2 Mosque, one of the biggest mosques in the islamic world, then continue to Rabat, visit the capital of Morocco where you can visit the Royal Palace, the mausoleum of Mohammed V, Hassan Tower… Night in hotel.
DAY 9:
Rabat – Asilah – Tangier
Breakfast and departure to Asilah, where you can have time to walk around a beautiful white medina then contunue to Tangier where the trip started.
WHAT TO BRING
You need to prepare as you would for walking in any mountain region; it can be warm and sunny during the day but the weather in the mountains can quickly change from sunshine to snow and cold winds (autumn through late spring). Please do not leave any rubbish behind you; carry out what you carry in.
We are tailored to match the season and your level of fitness. You have the choice of basing yourself in Berber Guesthouses, from where you can take daily walks, or you can Atlas Mule Trek for 2+ days. On mule treks you usually have the choice of staying in Berber Guesthouse/with families or wild camping in 2-person tents. In addition to regular packing, here is a check list for:
